Good Works are Invisible and Unmeasurable. Let God do those through you. No Measuring! No, how am I doing? Rather “by grace are you made whole and useful.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

This morning, I didn’t know what was next in my quiet time with God. I was drifting and disengaged.

Then , thankfully, I was prompted to ask the Lord: “What would you like to talk about?” And, our conversation started right away! Wow! Here it is:

Lord: John, we love to talk about freedom and love and mercy

John: I know that I want to perform and accomplish, instead of asking for mercy. I’d rather not be Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:45f). Except, I know that to “be humbled under your mighty hand” (1 Peter 5:6) and asking for mercy is essential to flowing in your Spirit. It just doesn’t feed my old ego.

Lord: In the Spirit, you are performing the great tasks and doing amazing work—like this conversation we are having right now (although it cannot be ego-measured either, LOL!).

At our prompting you started it. It doesn’t look like earthy, natural, flesh-based, ego-satisfying performance. (Note: this is true: my experience went from boring and routine to alive and engaged the moment I asked the Lord, “What would you like to talk about?” Then, our conversation immediately became interactive, deeper and very interesting.)

The holy work is something we do through you. You can’t see where it is coming and where it is going. “So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.) (John 3:8)

John: Thank you ALL for “beginning a good work in us and for the rest of our earthly journey completing it” (Philippians 1:6) “not by earth-style might or power but by your Spirit!” Zechariah 4:6
